Solar pool heaters are important investments for anyone who has to maintain a pool. These heaters will help regulate pool temperature in the pool, so your pool water will not be as vulnerable to external factors such as the weather.
Step 1° – The Solar Pool Heater Plans
Although there are other heating systems around such as gas heaters and electric heaters, a pool solar heater is widely preferred because it is affordable to operate and maintain.
Step 2° – The Solar Pool Heater Parts
A typical solar pool heater kit has four major components: a solar collector, a filter, a pump, and a flow control valve.

The pump is the one that pushes water to the filter and the solar collector for heating before it is sent back to the pool. Once it reaches the solar collector, the water is then heated using heat from the sun. Some newer solar pool heater models already come with a sensor that gauges the temperature of the water, so you can make the necessary adjustments in case the temperature changes are not enough.
This process may sound simple, but sourcing water heat from the sun is really a wise and efficient use of solar energy. And since sunlight is free, you can enjoy effective but pocket-friendly solar heating.
You can then use oil, gasoline, or electricity to power up your pump; however, you can also convert it into a solar pump. Another important factor is the distance between your solar pool heater location and your pool. If the distance is larger, you will need a long pump that can go a long way and cover the necessary distance.

The filter is also extremely important to solar pool heating systems because it can cleanse water as it passes through by filtering out any debris or leaf that managed to make its way into the water. Most solar pool heater systems also come with a flow control valve, which can be either automatic or manual to help make usage easier. The best way to get maximum heating from pool solar heater is to choose the best system out there.

Unquestionably, however, the biggest component of a solar pool heater is its solar collector. Solar collectors come in different types, and your choice of which type to avail of will also affect the effectiveness of a solar heating system for your pool. You can choose from glazed or unglazed solar collectors. Glazed ones come with a glass covering and are usually more durable and sturdier than unglazed ones. Glazed solar collectors use UV light inhibitor to make sure the heating panels will not be prone to damage. Glazed collectors are very effective especially for larger pool needs.
For in ground pools, you just need to set your desired temperature and allow the sensors to determine when it is most efficient to run your solar heating system. The process begins until warm and relaxing water is pushed back to your pool.
For above ground pool solar heater, the filter pump will send cold water from the pool to the solar panel, which then transfers the solar energy collected to the water traveling within the solar tubes. After this, the warm water is sent to the pool.
Step 3° – The Pool Solar Heater Controller
But you might ask, “how many degrees can solar pool heaters raise water temperature?”
In most cases, full solar pool heater systems can raise pool water’s temperature by about 15 degrees. This is usually done in the process. First, the solar heating system can raise pool temperature by about 5 degrees Fahrenheit once the water enters the solar heating system. Then, if the weather is good, you can go all the way up to 15 degrees Fahrenheit after some days. However, this can be affected by weather conditions.

thank you
I live in Las Vegas NV and have an inground pool with an existing rooftop solar pool heating system. Some of the solar pipes are leaking and one repairman replaced some of them with pvc pipe but they are still leaking. Where can I get proper solar replacement pipes or repair parts? After reading your website I realize that pvc pipe is probably not made for rooftop solar systems.
Larry,
